Project Controls Specialist

Our team is seeking a Project Controls Specialist with a background in the core project controls functions of Construction Management and/or Capital Project and Program Management.  In the capacity of Project Controls Specialist, you will be a key point of contact with numerous stakeholders within the program and on individual projects.

Requirements:
Relevant technical college graduate or engineering degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in project/program controls and project management; PMP or other professional certifications are desired; experience working in a Construction Management environment or Capital Project/Program Management environment; on-site construction experience, previous experience with large construction related projects is preferred.

The role requires the following qualifications:

  • Experience in the management of project and/or program budget and cost control functions including budgeting, commitment/contract management, change management, estimating, forecasting, and earned value management
  • Thorough understanding of project accounting and accrual collection
  • Experience in CPM Scheduling including resource/cost loading within Oracle Primavera P6
  • Understanding of principles and methods related to Earned Value Management
  • Ability to functionally coordinate within unique project and program business processes
  • Ability to present technical information to executive level staff
  • Experience utilizing various industry standard Project Management Information Systems (E-Builder, Oracle Unifier, PM Web, Procore, etc.)
  • Superior computer skills in the Microsoft Office Suite (specifically desired: expertise in MS Excel) as well as MS Access.  Experience with SQL /Share point Applications is a plus
  • Must be detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop project/program enterprise structures, i.e:  Work Breakdown Structures, and Cost Breakdown Structures
  • Perform and manage all budget and cost control functions
  • Prepare, update, and maintain integrated project/program schedules for engineering/design, procurement, construction, and commissioning/closeout
  • Prepare, update, and maintain cash flow, and earned value studies
  • Prepare month-end reports, variance reports, and ad hoc reports as required
  • Perform analytics and interpret project/program data for continuous improvement
  • Perform monthly audits of project schedule and financial information
  • Perform financial reconciliations
  • Train, manage, or mentor others (if required)
  • Administrate the use of Project Management Information Systems in the areas such as budget/cost control, document control, reporting.  Technical ability is desired to act as a “super user, including user administration, security and permissions management, user training, and custom reporting queries.
  • Perform thorough QA/QC on all deliverables
  • Travel, when required

Planner/Scheduler

Our team is seeking a Planner/Scheduler with a strong background in the core project controls functions of Construction Management and/or Capital Project and Program Management.  In the capacity of Planner/Scheduler you will be a key point of contact with numerous stakeholders within programs and on individual projects.

Relevant technical college graduate or engineering degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience in project/program controls and project management; PMP or other professional certifications are desired; experience working in a Construction Management environment or Capital Project/Program Management environment; on-site construction experience, previous experience with large construction related projects is preferred.

  • Demonstrated expertise in front-end program & project planning; Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) definition and development
  • Expert in Primavera (P6) & MS Project; Experience with Primavera Risk Analysis (or similar) is a plus
  • Knowledgeable of construction means and methods
  • Ability to advise on scheduling technology (tools) requirements and set-up
  • Solid knowledge of resource/cost loading, cash flow, and earned value management
  • Ability to review and perform analysis of construction claims; experience with dispute resolution is a plus
  • Strong planning, analytical, interpretive, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to blend client requirements with “best practice” standards and methodology, ability to “scale-to-fit” solutions in accordance with program and project needs
  • Ability to manage subordinate staff (if required) and to provide training and mentorship to staff with various skill-levels
  • Strong computer skills including excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must be detail-oriented and have good organizational and planning skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with clients, contractors, and staff at all levels 
  • Superior communication skills (both oral and written); ability to share knowledge and train client staff
  • Understanding of budget and cost control fundamentals and further experience in this capacity is a plus
  • Experience utilizing various industry standard Project Management Information Systems (E-Builder, Oracle Unifier, PM Web, Procore, etc.) is a plus

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop scopes of work and Work Breakdown Structures
  • Prepare, update, and maintain all levels of integrated project schedules (from master to detailed) for:  design, procurement, construction, and closeout
  • Resource load schedules and produce cash flow reports
  • Develop potential recovery plans
  • Prepare month-end, and variance reports
  • Perform qualitative risk analysis
  • Perform contractor schedule analyses
  • Review potential delay claims and perform quantitative analyses
  • Review design and construction progress & attend coordination/review meetings
  • Produce ad hoc reports, schedules or other similar deliverable
